what is a lip flip?

A lip flip, otherwise known as a lip lift, is a cosmetic injectable treatment involving the strategic placement of a wrinkle relaxer (anti wrinkle injections) to the upper lip muscle. The aim is to relax and lift the lip to create a fuller but natural looking upper lip. Don’t be fooled by the word “flip” as rest assured results are very natural and not at all duck like.

what can a lip flip do for me?

The wrinkle relaxer targets the muscle surrounding the upper lip (orbicularis oris) to subtley lift uncurl and create the illusion of a fuller upper lip. Although the procedure makes the lip appear larger it does not increase the lip volume. Lip flips can be extremely beneficial for those who show a lot of gum when smiling as well as for those wanting to soften and prevent lip lines.

LIp flip vs lip filler?

The 2 treatments are very different. A lip flip will lift and unfurl the lip whereas lip filler creates volume and definition. A stand alone lip flip can be useful for those not wanting the volume of a filler treatment, as an introduction to lip enhancement or to simply soften fine lines. For those who love to have lip filler it can be used in conjunction for further effect  or in between lip filler treatments.

what does a lip flip procedure involve?

Lip flip treatment is very simple and I have performed many of them.

• First step, a thorough consultation and examination.

• Photographs will be taken to track your results.

• The treatment involves a few small injections around the lip border using an exceptionally fine needle.

• Discomfort is generally minimal and brief as topical numbing cream is applied beforehand.

• The anti wrinkle injections (wrinkle relaxers) generally take around 10-15 minutes.

are there any risks?

Wrinkle relaxers are one of the most researched medications in the world and have an excellent safety profile.

However, anti wrinkle injections (wrinkle relaxers) are a medical procedure and therefore some risk is involved.

Injection related after effects can include slight redness, bruising and very mild discomfort.

Due to the subtle relaxation of the muscle around the lip some patients experience a sensation of very mild incompetence when pursing their lips, sipping form a cup or playing a musical instrument. This is very short lived if experienced.

It also must be stated that a small number of people may not respond effectively to a lip flip treatment as wrinkle relaxers to the lower face are not as predictable compared to the upper face.

Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an underlying neurological condition such as Myasthena Gravis cannot be treated with anti wrinkle injections (wrinkle relaxers).

how long does a lip flip last?

Results will last approximately 3 months and will vary amongst individuals. Your lips will look their best 2 weeks following a lip flip procedure and the results will gradually fade.

We are all different, but in most cases a stand alone lip flip is $165.

Treatment is very affordable as typically low doses are required.
